Trust

Working Party - February 6th, 2001

The roof is now in place and after a great deal of painstaking work the dome support ring with incorporated rollers is in place on the observatory. The ring is level to within 9mm over a diameter in the order of 4.8m and has been bolted down ready for the dome. This was assembled onto it's metal ring on the 6th ready for the helicopter to lift it into place on the observatory.

The box girder dome support ring Figuring out which is TAB A and which is SLOT B It fits! Ready for the helicopter

Unfortunately the weather conditions precluded a lift today and so the team amused themselves attacking the observatory walls with wire brushes, heat guns, highly corrosive chemicals and scrapers. This was not fun but has to be done to prepare the walls for the astronomy theme mural the trustees have commissioned from a local artist.

The current plan is for the Helicopter to lift the dome into place on the next possible day.
